We are manufacturers

At Disop we produce solutions specifically to improve the lives of people with eye problems.

We draw up our own formulae and are committed to the whole process

  1. We invent the formulae and carry out all the tests and research needed for correctly placing our products on the market.
  2. We manufacture the product in our own facilities.
  3. We sell and distribute the finished products enabling them to reach specialist points of sale and, eventually, the users.

The production of a health care product has to comply with certain very specific requirements that determine both the equipment and the procedures used to produce it.

We have been producers for more than 40 years

Disop has been making health care products for over 40 years and has extensive experience in this field. Manufacturing products for contact lens care is a real technological challenge. Such products not only have to clean and perfectly disinfect contact lenses but also have to maintain the right balance between the eye and the tear. It is therefore necessary to select formulae containing ingredients with low or zero toxicity at the right percentages. It is also essential for certain parameters such as pH and concentration of salts to be similar to those of the tear. The inclusion in formulae for contact lens care of biocompatible substances has been a huge step forward. These include hyaluronic acid, an excellent humectant that does not lead to allergies or incompatibilities because it exists within the eye (in the crystalline lens and in the vitreous humour).

Disop was the first company in the world to include this ingredient in contact lens care products.

In addition, evolution in the materials contact lens are made of (greater wettability, more permeable to oxygen, surface treatments) has to go together with updating of the formulae for care products. This is important to avoid changes in lens parameters or damage to lens materials.

In general, contact lens care products are expected to be safe, efficient and easy-to-use. They are classified as health care products so have to comply with certain requirements and standards.

Some of these are:

  • Contact lens compatibility test (ISO 11981). This test has to be performed on all products entering into contact with lenses to check that lens parameters do not change when they are used.
  • Study of the product’s disinfectant capacity (ISO 14729 “stand alone” test). In this test, contact lenses are submerged in a medium that has been contaminated with a given load of various microorganisms. The product must be able to reduce this load to certain levels considered safe within a given time.
  • Test to determine the discard date of a product after opening (ISO 14730). This test measures the efficacy of any preservatives used. For this purpose, the sample is contaminated then checked to see if the preservative is able to keep the formula in good condition until the discard date.
  • Clinical test (ISO 11980). Once these tests have been passed, the manufacturing laboratory has to perform a clinical trial with volunteer users to prove that the product is safe for patients and efficient for lens care.

We are a leader in the production of private labels

Disop sells products under its own brand and is also a leader in private label production. It produces solutions for contact lens care and products for eye care bearing the label of a large number of optical chains and groups from all over the world.
